The dome fell on Chester’s Mill trapping all of its residents inside on June 24th two years ago. The series has been one of the highest rated summer series ever since; it’s mysteries and tense drama bringing viewers back summer after summer. Well, CBS has announced that the dome is coming down September 10th.
Based on Stephen King’s best-selling novel, Under the Dome has been hit or miss for me, and the most recent season kind of went off the rails a bit, so I am not even slightly surprised it’s been cancelled. The tense melodrama and sometimes lackluster performances by some of the actors made it a hard show to watch at times, but overall it has remained a ratings juggernaut despite it all. It kind of became the new Lost, with mysteries aplenty and some interesting sci-fi trappings set in a small town where everyone knows everyone’s secrets. Sort of.
The series finale should tie up any loose ends and answer many lingering questions the viewers, and the residents themselves, may have. And some of those residents may not come out of it alive.
“Two years ago, UNDER THE DOME broke new ground in the summer and became an instant hit on CBS, as well as with viewers around the world,” said Nina Tassler, Chairman, CBS Entertainment. “DOME’s event storytelling and multi-platform business model paved the way for more original summer programming with the successful rollouts of EXTANT and ZOO. We’re excited to present the final chapter in Chester’s Mill as the story comes full circle, with the Dome coming down as dramatically as it went up.”
All three seasons will remain on Amazon Prime Video, the exclusive streaming service of Under the Dome.
